Throughout this series Adair’s organic and inquisitive use of pattern continues to explore the unidentified space between powerful and iconic subject matter. In this instance his usual playful style has become more linear and austere; restricting his palate his pattern now suggests an explosion of forceful tree roots where previously they might have been colourful vines and blooms. These haunting pieces affectionately illustrate the links between Queen and Country at the same time as powerfully addressing the presence of distance and hierarchy.
